capacity
(能力)
1) The capability of a system to perform its expected function. 2) The capability of a worker, machine, work center, plant or organization to produce output per time period. Capacity required represents the system capability needed to make a given product mix (assuming technology, product specification ,etc.). As a planning function ,both capacity available and capacity required can be measured in the short (capacity requirements planning ), intermediate (rough cut capacity plan ) and long term ( resource plan). Capacity control is the execution through the I/O control report of the short-term plan. Capacity can be classified as theoretical ,rated, demonstrated, protective, productive, dedicated ,budgeted ,or standing.

capacity management
(操業度管理)
The function of establishing, measuring, monitoring, and adjusting limits or levels of capacity in order to execute all manufacturing schedules; i.e., the production plan, master production schedule, material requirements plan, and dispatch list. Capacity management is executed at four levels: resource planning, rough-cut capacity planning, capacity requirements planning, and input/output control.

Capacity requirements planning
(能力所要量計画:Capacity requirements planning)
The function of establishing, measuring, and adjusting limits or levels of capacity. The term capacity requirements planning in this context refers to the process in determining in detail the amount of labor and machine resources required to accomplish the tasks of production. Open shop orders and planned orders in the MRP system are input to CRP, which, through the use of parts routings and time standards, translates these orders into hours of work by work center by time period. Even though rough-cut capacity planning may indicate that sufficient capacity exists to execute the MPS, CRP may show that capacity is insufficient during specific time periods.

concurrent engineering
(コンカレントエンジニアリング)
Participative design / engineering. A concept that refers to the participation of all the functional areas of the firm in the product design activity. Suppliers and customers are often also included. The intent is to enhance the design with the inputs of all the key stakeholders. Such a process should ensure that the final design meets all the needs of the stakeholders and should ensure a product that can be quickly brought to the marketplace while maximizing quality and minimizing costs.

configurator
(コンフィグレータ)
A Configurator software provides a solution for users to view online catalogs, perform product selections, and download the end result of the rule based configuration system. This system can be for build-to-order applications and on-demand solutions.
For complex products, a configurator must be able to support potentially thousands of options, rules and constraints.

As products and services grow ever more customized and complex, a Configurator software makes a complex selection process less complicated for customers.

For example, during a typical product selection process to purchase a speed boat, a Product Configurator poses a series of questions about boat size, seating arrangement, color, upholstery, engine size, and optional accessories. Answers to the questions are matched against product availability. Certain boat sizes, for example, might limit engine size and seating arrangements. Boat color and upholstery are also often coordinated.
A Sales Configurator permits only a properly configured boat order to move forward in real time as the specification process is underway.
There are no surprises for the specifier when, at the end of a Configurator session, a correctly customized boat is ready for purchase.

Constraints Management
(制約条件管理:Constraints Management)
In broad brush, the Theory of Constraints (TOC) is about change and how best to effect it. More specifically, TOC is a set of management principles that help to identify impediments to your goal(s) and effect the changes necessary to remove them.

TOC recognizes that the ouput of any system that consists of multiple steps where the output of one step depends on the output of one or more previous steps will be limited (or constrained) by the least productive steps. In other words, as paraphrased in "The Goal," the strength of any chain is dependent upon its weakest link.
Where manufacturing is concerned, TOC postulates that the goal is make (more) money. It describes three avenues to this goal:
Increase Throughput.
Reduce Inventory.
Reduce Operating Expense.

As Dr. Goldratt notes, the opportunities to make more money through reductions in Inventory and Operating Expense are limited by zero. The opportunities to make more money by increasing Throughput, on the other hand, are unlimited.
More than that, though, TOC challenges us to define a goal and re-examine all of our actions and measurements based on how well or how poorly they serve it. This is done through a set of tools including,

The Socratic method.

Goldratt's five focusing steps.
1. Current Reality Tree.
2. Cloud.
3. Future Reality Tree.
4. Prerequisite Tree.
5. Transition Tree.

Evaporating Clouds.

Reality Trees.

that help us identify and resolve bottlenecks.

cross-dock
(クロスドック)
The cross-dock takes in deliveries of supplier parts a few times a day and reconfigures them into different mixes of products so they are shipped as mixed truckloads of the right number of parts foe one to two hours of production. The cross-dock allows for efficient pickup of parts from suppliers and for just-in-time delivery to the assembly plant.
Cross-docks are quite common in many industries, for example, in the food industry, and normally cross-docking is subcontracted out as a commodity.

Cycle counting
(巡回棚卸し)
An inventory accuracy audit technique where inventory is counted on a cyclic schedule rather than once a year. A cycle inventory count is usually taken on a regular, defined basis (often more frequently for high-value or fast-moving Stocks and less frequently for low-value or slow-moving Stocks). Most effective cycle counting systems require the counting of a certain number of Stocks every workday with each Stock counted at a prescribed frequency. The key purpose of cycle counting is to identify Stocks in error, thus triggering research, identification, and elimination of the cause of the errors.
